Lower Back Pain With Stomach Pain

Lower back pain with stomach pain can be caused by a variety of different things. Some causes are serious and potentially life threatening while others are not as serious. For example, appendicitis may cause lower back pain along with stomach pain, especially in the lower right quadrant. Appendicitis must be treated immediately to avoid rupture. When caught and treated promptly this condition is rarely life threatening but does require surgical intervention. Kidney problems are another reason you may feel pain in the areas of your stomach and lower back.

Then there are other causes of this type of pain which aren't as dangerous. Menstrual cramps can cause discomfort in the abdomen and back. For these type of cramps, relief can be found with over the counter pain medications such as ibuprofen. There are also over the counter medicines like Pamprin and Midol which are made especially for the problems that accompany premenstrual syndrome. There are other female conditions that may also cause this type of pain. Cysts in the area of the reproductive system can cause pain that may radiate from the abdomen to the back. Of course, if you are pregnant and experience this type of pain it may be a sign of labor.

Even urinary tract issues can cause pain in the back and stomach. Another possible cause is irritable bowel syndrome. Rather than trying to diagnose yourself, see a medical professional upon the onset of the pain. No matter what the cause, the sooner you get a diagnosis the sooner treatment can begin. The treatment that will be required will depend upon the cause of the problem. For example, if a urinary tract infection is to blame you may be given antibiotics. For irritable bowel syndrome lifestyle and dietary changes may be prescribed, with or without medication.

Yet another possible cause of lower back pain with stomach pain can be injury. Pulled muscles can sometimes cause pain in both the abdomen and the back. If this is the cause of your discomfort, you may be directed to start off by resting the area and applying ice to it. Then after a few days you may want to use heat for pain relief and begin a gentle regimen of strengthening and flexibility building exercises. Your doctor can help you devise a treatment plan that meets your individual needs and preferences.
