Lower Back Pain In Women
|
Lower back pain in women can be caused by a variety of different things. One of the most common causes is strain due to physical activity or poor posture. For example, you might pull a back muscle lifting something heavy, playing sports or even sleeping on a bad mattress. Luckily there are lots of ways to fix this type of back pain. The best course of action is to take a preventative stance. This means warming up before exercising, lifting from your legs and not your back, working at an ergonomically correct desk and sleeping on a firm mattress with a pillow wedged between your legs. You will find mattresses and pillows made especially for back pain sufferers.
Another possible cause would be something like osteoarthritis. Various bone and joint disorders can cause pain in the lower back area. For these types of problems you will most likely be referred to a specialist who deals with your condition. Other possible causes of pain include issues like disc degeneration and/or a herniated disc. To diagnose this type of problem you may have to undergo imaging such as MRI scanning or ultrasound to get a better look at the area. Sciatica is yet another condition that may cause low back pain in both men and women.
Sciatica is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve and is characterized by a burning sensation that travels down the back of the leg and sometimes reaches as far down as the foot. Other areas that may hurt include the hip and buttocks. Other possible causes of female back pain include gynecological issues such as menstrual cramps, cysts, endometriosis and pregnancy. The reason so many pregnant women experience back pain is because the elevated level of progesterone makes the back more susceptible. Also, the extra weight of pregnancy can add to back discomfort.
There are so many different causes of lower back pain in women. Because of this, it is important to seek the advice of your doctor. Your doctor can evaluate the problem and devise a treatment plan based on your particular condition. Most often, treatments for back pain include the application of heat and cold, physical therapy, exercise, pain medication and more. Surgery is sometimes required in rare cases but most often back pain can be managed without surgery.
